KUMEU
[OWN CORRESPONDENT]
Kumeu was visited by 25 members of the Salvation Army (Newmarket Corps) last Saturday. They arrived by train from Woodhill at 1.30. marching into the Kumeu Hall grounds under the command of Adjutant VVyalt, where a picnic function had been arranged by the Kutnou residents. Later -in the afternoon the Kumeu Girl Scouts, under the command of Patrol-leader Mavis Barnes, arrived and extended greetings of welcome to the visiting party. After a very enjoyable afternoon was spent, the visitors were invited to partake of tea provided by the Kumeu residents.
The thunderstorm, accompanied by vivid lightning and heavy rain, thieatened the prospects of a largo gathering for the concert, ,vhich was given by the visitors, under the conductorship of Mr Bridge. Despite the weather conditions, about fifty people Avere present; to enjoy a very carefully chosen programme of sixteen items. The girls played their parts splendidly in the dialogues, action songs, monologues, and recitations Mr Bridge gave two recit itions, and Miss Holland (i Load Ki-idly Light." The illustrated song " Rock of Ages" was rendered with marked impression. The programme lasted two hours and
was much appreciated
On Sunday morning the visitors conducted a service in the Kuraeu Ball. At 2 p.m. the Company was given orders to march to Taupaki to conduct a service them, The singing by the children, solos by Mrs Lay and Miss Holland, recitation by Mr Bridge, addresses by Adjutant Wyatt, Mrs Wyatt, Mr Lay, and Mrs Bridge concluded a very pleasing and svell> spent afternoon.
The visiting company left Taupaki for Kuraeu (whore they were billeted by willing friends), and again rendered a very pleasing programme of songs, recitations, etc. The company left I£umeu by first train on Monday morning for INewmarket. carrying with them tthe good wishes of all.
