A gum-digger named Ralph James, of Kaukapakapa, was brought to Helensville on Sunday last, suffering from severe burns on the face and arms. He was attended to by Dr. Meinhold, who did all that was possible for the patient who expired the same day.
The locally-owned horse, .Mr Jas. Hand's Lady Paula, has come well to the fore just lately. At the Paeroa Races on Saturday she won the Maiden Handicap by a length and a-half, and on Monday in the Miners' Handicap she won by two lengths, covering the five furlongs in lmin. 2 4-ssecs. Lady Paula also scored at the Te Aroha Races two weeks previously.
An exceptionally well-selected and first-class programme will be shown at the Star Theatre on Saturday evening .evening: next. The big attraction is the : latest Metro, production, "The Bridge1' or " The Bigger Man "—dealing with the labour problem in America, and is intensely interesting. The photography is uniformly excellent, and many of the scenes will long be remembered. There is a delightful heroine in the person of Rene Kelly, and a stalwart hero in the popular Henry Kolker. "Maud's Love Affair" (a real funny^ one), and episode 20 of" The Broken Coirf" are among the supporting films.
It is not often one hears in Helensville of a motor car catching fire and becoming a mass of ruins in a few minutes. This unfortunate mishap occurred yesterday to a £350 car belonging to the Hot Springs Motor Co., while on its way to the Native settlement. When nearing the Parkhurst School, the chaffeur, Mr F. LeGrice, noticed that part of the woodwork was in flames. He promptly stopped the car, and disconnected the benzine, thus saving an explosion, but it was impossible to save the car from ruin.
. The management qf Stewart's Pictures announce t^at in future their Theatre will be know as the "L.yric," and real good programmes will be shown th.ree nights weekly. To-morrow (Friday) evening the star- feature is " fhe Commanding Officer," a splendid drama in five parts. The following night (Saturday) " The Villian Worshipper," episode 10 of " Stingaree," will be screened ; also the " Village Vampire," and other fine items. " The Morals of Marcus "is booked for Tuesday evening next, with a good supporting programme.

With this object in view, a public meeting will be held to-morrow (Friday) at the Town Board Office at 8.45 p.m (after military meeting). Mr Whitney, President of the Auckland Acclimatization Society, will be present, and will be pleased to give the fullest information.
