KAUKAPAKAPA

[OWN CORRESPONDENT]

FAREWELL TO REV. LAMOND

In spite of the inclement weather, a large assembly met in in the Kaukapakapa Hall on the evening of Tuesday, January 30, to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Lamond and family.

Mr Lamond has quite recently been |appointed to the charge of a school at Great Barrier, and his numerous friends felt that they would like to show in some way the esteem in which the Rev. gentleman has been held in the district in which he has so earnestly laboured for nearly three years.

The holding of a social was first suggested on Monday, yet a more successful function could scarcely have been held had there been weeks of preparation instead of only two days, The sight of the large number who braved the elements to do him honour must have convinced Mr -Lamond that he had firmly established himself in the hearts of his parishioners.

Mr Stevens acted as Chairman and was supported on the platform by Mr.Diprose, representing the Sunday School, and Mr Milligan, representing the Wainui district.

A most enjoyable programme was presented, consisting of songs by Mesdames Bellini, Goodwin, and Lanner, and Mr Milligan; recitations by Mrs Pascoe; and addresses by Messrs Stevens, Diprose and Million ; .while at intervals the " grownups " forgot their mature years and joined hilariously with the children in parlour games. Throughout the evening one could not fail to notice the spirit good-fellowship which prevailed. At the close of the programme Mr Stevens presented Mr Lamond with a purse containing £15 8s 6d, as a slight token of appreciation from the residents of Kaukapakapa and Wainui.

Mr Lamond feelingly replie4 on behalf of himself and Mrs L,amqnd, and, after supper had been partaken of, proeeedinga closed with tfae singing of-" Auld Lang Syne," and the National Anthem.

Mr Lamond left for Auckland on Wednesdoy, en route for thd Barrier, carrying with him the good wishes of all who really knew him.
