HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD.

THURSDAY, DEC. 14th, 1916. PRESENT Comrs. J. F. Lambert (chairman), A. Becroft, H. Thompson, H. Aitkenhead, H. Graham, Jas. Stewart, E. T. Field,and the clerk (Mr H. W. Stringer). MINUTES Minutes of previous ■ meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Outward correspondence was confirmed. The Chairman read the Roads Committee report, which was adopted. RESOLUTIONS. It was resolved that a deputation meet Mr Jas, McLeod, re upkeep of Mill Road. A letter was read from Mr F. R. Eames, re half-holiday on Wednesday, 20th inst., instead of the following Saturday afternoon, —Adopted. Mr Blackmore wrote re town gas lighting. Proposed by Com. Stewart, seconded by Com. Aitkenhead —That tenders be called with regard to a lighting scheme, and Mr Blackmore will be eligible to tender. —Carried. Mr Parkes wrote re drain pipes needed outside his premises. It was proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Com. Aitkenhead —That the necessary piping (to be of cast iron) be put in at once. —Carried. A complaint was received from Mr W. Millward with reference to motor cars carrying passengers without having a license to do so. . Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Com. Aitkenhead — That in future all motor cars plying for hire must take out the necessary license. —Carried. With reference to the above, Mr H. Fifield was appointed traffic inspector, with power to. take legal action for any infringment of the by-law. The District Health Officer wrote re drainage, etc. Proposed by Com. Stewart, seconded by Com. Graham —That Mrs Cameron be notified to the effect that it is necessary to connect her premises with the main sewer.— Carried. GENERAL. It was proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Com. Thompson —'That nothing be done with regard to the extension of the town boundary till matters in reference to the ferro-concrete bridge are settled. —Carried. Proposed by Com. Becroft and seconded-by Com. Stewart —That an application be made for a loan of £200, to be spent on Awaroa Road. —Carried. Proposed by Com. Becroft and seconded by Com. Aitkenead — That the necessary filling in and diverting of the drainage under the Agricultural Hall be carried out. —Carried. Proposed by Com. Becroft and seconded by the Chairman—That any tar left over after the necessary repairing has been carried out, can be used on those footpaths which have not yet been tarred. —Carried. Proposed by Com. Stewart and seconded by the Chairman—That Mr Becroft be instructed to draw plan of shed to be used for the making or concrete moulds for water channels.—-Carried. Proposed by Com, Stewart and seconded by Com. Aitkenhead — That Mr J, Megson be notified to remove his fence, leading to the river, to his proper boundary.— Carried, Proposed by Com, Field and ! seconded by the Chairman—That tenders be oalled for 50yds of i shell and sand suitable for tarring purposes,—Carried, It was deoided to defer matters which came before the meeting in connection with the Volunteer Fire Brigade, until the January meeting of the Board. It was proposed by Com.Becroft and seconded by Com. Stewart — That a separate page be kept in the Town Board's minute book for the purpose of enrolling the names of fallen soldiers belonging to the district. —Carried. The Chairman proposed and Com. Aitkenhead seconded—That a roll of honour of our fallen soldiers be placed outside the Public Library.—Carried. Com. Field proposed (in pursuance of notice of motion) the following resolutions, which were cfuly seconded and carried :— That the resolution of the JBoard appointing the Public Trustee as Trusted for the Sinking Fund for- the Water and Drainage Loan of £3300, be rescinded, and that the Public Trustee be notified accordingly, That the Sinking Fund for the said Loan be placod with the Union Bank, the sura already due to the Sinking Fund to be paid into a separate account with the Bank, and a similar sum to be paid in on the Ist April in each year, as provided at the time of establishing the Sinking Fund.

That the Chairman, the Clerk, and the mover be appointed a Committee to arrange with the said Bank to establish such Sinking Fund without paying any annual or other charge for keeping the account, and to arrange to receive interest thereon at the rate of 6 % per annum, such interest to accumulate in such account by way of compound interest until the currency of the loan expires. That it be an instruction to the surfaceman that in all cases of patching metal road, the bottom and sides of holes to be filled be first loosened with a pick and then filled with metal, the metal to be well blinded and well tamped. This was all the business.
