That most popular and charming of actresses, Marguerite Clark, is to again pay us a visit —on the screen. With the clever actor, Harold Lockwood, she is to appear in " The Crucible," at the Star Theatre on Wednesday next. This thrilling, emotional and highly romantic drama (by the Famous Players Co.), cannot fail to be popular, and is one of the best ever shown here, A ballot was taken recently among the Fire Brigades to decide where the 1917 conference of delegates should be held. The two towns submitted were Balclutha and Helensville. The result was declared on Monday evening by Capt. T. J. Watt, secretary, Aucklaud, the voting resulting as follows: Balclutha 65, Helensville 61, informal 2. A Garden Party to raise funds for making a tennis court for the girls, will be held in the School Ground on Wednesday, and during the afternoon various dances will be given by the scholars, including a maypole dance of 24performers. Competitions of different kinds will be carried on, Afternoon tea, strawberries i and cream, etc., will be obtainable at a small cost.

" Whoso Diggeth a Pit," a London Film masterpiece, is the big feature of next Saturday's attractive programme at the Star Theatre. In this swiftly moving story of man's avarice there is everything that will satisfy the realist and the lover of romance, compelling interest throughout. Included in the same programme are "The Broken Coin," and "Stolen Glory"—a Keystone comedy, featuring Fred Mace and Ford Stirling.

The street cqllectiqn for the Belgian Funds, which took place in IJelensville qn Friday last, was a decided success. The sum of £13 11s 4d was collected, including the amount of 12s, and the ladies responsible for the collection of that amount were Mrs Sewell and Misses Becroft and Wilson. The amount has been forwarded to the Belgian Consul, by Mr H, W. Stringer, and gratefully acknowledged.

The people of Helensville are beginning to realise the neoessity qf a, Fire Brigade for fighting the flames in cases of emergency. The local Brigade is badly off for fire alarms, and with this object in view, there is going to be a picture benefit, to-morrow night (Friday), in the Star Theatre, the proceeds of which go towards a fund for providing the said fire alarms.
