DISTRICT NEWS.
WAIMAUKU [BY A CORRESPONDENT] A most successful afternoon concert was held in the Waimauku Hall last Tuesday. A party of thirty-six motored from town. Major (Dr.) Maguire gave an address, and Mrs Maguire and a number- of musicians gave a splendid musical programme. Neeedless, to say, the funds were for patriotic purposes. A road has been made on to the Murawai beach, and last Sunday the first motor was able to enjoy unlimited distance, as the tide was out. It seemed strange to see such a lovely car spinning up the beach. The road grader had put the road in good order, and those who ventured out had a pleasant surprise. A Sports Committee has been formed for the usual New Year Day sports, and a track is being made near Lockett's camp. The Parliamentary Tour is booked to visit Motutara on 30th January, so it is to be hoped fine weather prevails.
