OBITUARY.
DEATH OF THE LATE MR HENRY BAILEY. A VERY old and highly respected resident ot Helens ville, in the person of Mr Henry Bailey, passed away on Thursday, 30th November, at his daughter's (Mrs H. Thompson)' residence, at the age of 73 years. Deceased had been ailing for about eight weeks prior to his death, which was caused by cancer on the liver and heart disease. Mr Bailey was born at Grimsby in the County of Norfolk,.. England and came of good old sea-faring stock, He went to sea at the 7 age of nine years, and served in the Royal Navy, H.M.S Lion being one of the battleships in which he put in some of his time. .He was well acquau^^ with the North Sea and its brw^* ness, and was deeply interested in the recent naval fights against Germany. Deceased came to -Ji Auckland in 1873 in the ship Fern Glen, which brought out the *-. first locomotive to be placed on . the Riverhead-Helensville line. ' He afterwards came to Helensvillle,. and resided till the day of his death, following the occupa~ - , ; tion of mariner on the Kaipara^ -- Harbour. The funeral took place on the following Saturday afternoon, when a large gathering of relatives and friends paid their last, respects to the deceased.^" The burial service was read in ~* St. Matthew's Church, by the - Rev. A. V. Venables, and from "*•* thence the cortege proceeded to the Helensville cemetery, where the body was placed alongside that of his late wife.
