There is now on display at F. Tucker's a large and choice assortment of fancy goods and toys of the latest, the best and the cheapest. On our back page will be noticed a large advertisement descriptive of many . lines turned out by the " Cyclone" Fence arid Gate Company, Christchurch, and for which Messrs Wingate and Co., Ltd:, are the Auckland agents. The Waitemata County Council held its annual meeting on Wednesday, 22nd November, when Mr A. Marshall Laing was re-elected Chairman, on the motion of Cr. Day, seconded by Cr. Dye. He briefly returned thanks, and spoke of the satisfactory condition of the County finances, but sounded a note of the necessity of observance of economy.

Readers of Opie Reed's book, "A Yankee from the West," will welcome the story in picture form, showing at the Star Theatre on Wednesday evening next, Another attraction which should prove interesting at the present time is entitled " The Royal Navy Division," a splendid picture illustrative of the work of the sailors of the British Navy on land.

On Tuesday last, at their saleyards, the North Auckland Farmers' Co-op./ Ltd., per Mr Christie, sold a rooster, kindly presented by Mr Thomas Elliott in aid of the Belgian Fund. The rooster changed hands several times, finally being knocked down to Mr Percy McLeod. The amount realised was £4 4s 6d, which has been handed to Mr Stringer to forward on to the Belgian Consul.

" Have you got that culvert fixed up yet ?" enquired a ratepayer of the editor yesterday, referring to our lea ling article last issue on the want of crossings, etc. " Why," remarked our friend, " you only talk of three fellows falling into the dangerous place. Didn't you hear of the motor car and load smashing into the same man-trap, and all had a most miraculous escape ?" We had quite overlooked the incident, but the trap still exists, and lilcely too, until someone gets a broken leg, or killed outright.

On Friday last a presentation of a veryhandsome solid silver teapot was made by the members of the Helensville Golf Club to their President (Mr TIIO3. Elliott). The presentation was made as a slight acknowledgement of the many kindnesses extended to the members in various ways, the lending of the ground for the links free of charge, and the big amount of labour put in by Mr Elliott in getting the links in order. Mr Rose (who made the presentation) said he hoped Mr Elliott would be spared long enough to enjoy many a cup of tea brewed in the teapot. Mr Elliott suitably responded.

There was a large attendance at the euchre party and dance, held in the Star Theatre on Monday evening last. These popular monthly social evenings, which are promoted by . the Church of England Ladies' Guild, are always greatly enjoyed and games keenly contested, and this one proved no exception. The highest scorer among the ladies was Miss Tuthill, while MrG.Bennett carried off the gentlemen's prize. Consolation prizes were awarded to Miss Johnson and Mr M. McGarvey. A dainty supper was handed round, after which dancing was indulged in, Miss Rimmer supplying the music..

On Saturday afc the Star Theatre will take place the first -exhibition in Helensville of the unprecedentedly successful 6000 ft filmed presentation of Elinor Glyn's widely discussed love story "Three Weeks." The management states that no stay picture previously shown has ever attained to anything like the popularity enjoyed by "Tb,ree Weeks'' in Auckland. The novel, when first published, excited much comment, and its sale was prohibited, but this does not apply to the filmed version, and so skilfully does the latter tread across any'thin ice that the Board of Censors, after viewing the production (which was under Elinor Glyn's personal supervision) made no difficulty about granting a certificate to the effect that the picture was "free from offence."
