Social in the Star Theatre next Mon- j day evening. Mr W. Thome Buckland, of South Head, died on October 31st. Auckland Races taking place ( on the 4th and Bth November, railway holiday excursions are announced. The Alliance Assurance Co., Ltd., have appointed Mr R. Screaton as their Helensville and district agent. Particulars of the Milk Testing competition in connection with the Helen»ville A. and P. Association, entry fees, etc., are now advertised. Mr Finn Stewart dropped into Helensville (his birthplace) from Sydney, on Monday last. He looks well on it too, and was pleased to meet old chums and friends. The financial result of the banquet to Captain J. Gordon Coates was a surplus of £1 Os 6d, which will be equally divided between the Women's Red Cross Funds of Helensville and Parakai.
On Wednesday evening next at the Star Theatre " Rupert of Hentzau " will be screened. It a most gorgeous production, and the sequel to " The prisoner of Zenda," which showed with such success last night to a crowded house.
The man who is making things lively at Megson's (E. Gahagan), now announces further good news, being about to open out a new and up-to-date stock in all departments.—See advt.
On Tuesday last the N.A. Farmers' Co.-op., Ltd., sbld a farm of 43 acreß belonging to Mr W. Moyle, Te Pua, the purchaser being Mr W. Titzthum, of Upper Waiwera. The price paid was £60 per acre.
A settler named Mr E. Sanders was burnt out at Kaukapakapa on Tuesday morning, whilst he and his family were out milking. As the fire broke out in the front of the house, the incendiary rat gets the blame of the disaster. The house and furniture were totally destroyed, and the insurance was small.
On Friday evening last, at the Star Theatre, Helensville, Professor Clement Wragge, the renowned astronomer, delivered' a most interesting lecture on the Eternal Universe and the War. There was a good attendance, and the lecturer dealt with his subject in a most skilful manner, with the aid of lanter n slides With regard ito the war, he predicted that it would terminate as suddenly as it commenced, and that in his opinion it would not last longer than the end of the year.
Marguerite Clark, who stars in the comedy romance "Gretna Green," at the Star Theatre on Saturday evening next» is considered by many Picture lovers to, have so improved in her latest productions that she now bears comparison with the world-famed Mary Pickford and there is said to "be much difference of opinion as to which is the greatest artist. She has ample scope in this quaint and picturesque play, which possesses all the varying elements essential to the successful screen drama—love sacrifice, humour, mystery and thrill — and the scene is laid in the charming period of the nineteenth century, when elopements to Gretna Green (the lovers' haven in North Scotland) teemed with excitement and adventure.
