[own correspondent! SOCIAL TO A SOLDIER. A social was held in the Hall on Friday, 13th inst., to bid farewell to Lance-Gorporal B. Gainsford, who was on final leave, and who was presented with a nice wristlet watch by his Makarau and Glorit friends. Lieut. K. R. White was also present. HOME FROM CAMP. Private H. Manuel is at present spending a few da3'S ia the discrict,having been invalided home from Trentham, where he contracted measles shortly aft«r going into catrp. A KITCHEN AFFAIR. On Thursday, 19th inst.. Mrs C. Hooper and Mvs G. E. Smith invited a number of friends to meet Miss Flynn at a " kitchen luuch " in the Hall. A very tempting lunch was. set out and was greatly appreciated. Mrs Smith, on behalf of herself and those present, wished Miss JFhnn and Mr A. Shanks (whose marriage is to take place on Tuesday) every happiness and success in life. Miss Flynn briefly and feelingly replied, thanking all for their good wishes and for the many useful presents. WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND The Makarau Patriotic Committee called a meeting on Satutday last to discuss ways and means of raising money for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. It was decided to hold a combined concert, dance, and jumble sale on Friday, 17th Novemh^^^^
