SUNDAY'S MEMORIAL SERVICE.
Ox Sunday afternoon last, 22nd inst., the third memorial service was held in Stewart's Theatre, Helensville, and needless to say the spacious buildio» was well filled. The military turned out in. full force, and included a . detachment of the Auckland Highland Reserve with a couple of pipers. Other bodies represented were the Helensville Fire Brigade and the Foresters' Lodge, the whole being headed by the Town Band. Mr Aldridge, of Auckland, conducted tha service, ta'idng for his subject. " The war and the prophecy," which was delivered by him in a very -able and lucid manner. 'Che " gentleman selected for his text II Peter, 1:19 ; — " We have also a more sure word of prophecy, whereuuto ye do well that ye take heed, .as unto the light that shineth in a dark place until day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts," The collection amounted to £4 4s, which sum goes cowards the Servian -Belief -Fund.
The next memorial service will take place on Sunday, November 19 intJie Star Theatre. The preacher will be the Rev. Mr Murray]' of St Auclrew's Church, Auckland. •' ' '
Our dark-skinned brothers, the Maoris are to be commended for their generosity m donating many thousands of acres of land along the Main Trunk for returned Maori soldiers, thus relieving the Government of much expense.
