A good billiard yarn, as told in the " Bulletin ": — Pie was a big-gun billiard rook looking for a Maori mug. In the first game he ju-u-st beat Henare Kita Henare ju-u-st beat him in the second He was angry at being beaten by a Maori; would play Henare for a terme 1' "if he liked himself so much." Henare preferred himself a tenner's worth, and went into the hairdressing saloon, washed his face and hands, donned a clean collar and lubricated his locks. The money was up and the rook played all he knew, As he made his shots Henare attended to the courtesies of the game. Then the rook began to mis-oue at important places iii his breaks. He utilised a lot of anathema, sand-papered his tips an d changed his cues. Henare played calmly and won by a bagful. The rook fled. "He t'ink he te prurry smart prbke cos he come to take te poor Maori town ain't he ?" chuckled Henare. " Put I s'ovv him te point. You know when I toin' my hair I put te hinu (hair-oil) on te ref (left) han', an' ewery time I take his pall out-a te pocket I ' kreeze him '— tat te way he make ora prurry miss-cue, what you t'ink, eh?"
