THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CONCERT.

On Thursday evening last, 7th inst., the Star Theatre, Helensville, was packed with an audience who thoroughly appreciated the programme which was placed before them. The concert was organised by Mrs W. M. McGarvey, for the benefit of the Roman Catholic fund. A number of the items on the first part of the programme had been rendered at a previous concert, and on this occasion the children showed great improvement, acquitting themselves remarkably well. " Babes in the Wood " was staged to perfection, and much enjoyed. Mr M. McGarvey's song, " Down on the Farm," was loudly applauded. After the interval Father Kelly made a neat little speech, and delighted the audience with his rendering of " The Minstrel Boy," and " Oft in the Stilly Night." The "Merry Jesters," a company of six artists from Auckland, occupied the remaining portion of the programme, and gave a good selection of musical, amusing items which were all loudly encored. Miss G. Warmsley rendered "Rose of my Heart " most sweely; while the patter song, by the whole company, also deserves special mention. At the conclusion a dance was held and kept up till the early hours of the morning.
