PATRIOTIC CONCERT

On Friday evening last, 18th inst., a benefit patriotic concert was held in the Church of Christ, Helensville -, also to bid farewell to Private Russell Geldard who has been home on final leave. The Church waa packed to the doors, and an excellent programme was placed before the public. In a neat speech Mr R. Skelton presented the guest of the evening with a silver, wristlet watch, pocket book, purse, and Bible. The recipient, in a few words, suitably responded. The collection, which came to about £8, was handed over to Mrs M. McArthur, whose husband was recently killed in action. The promoters ot the function wish to thank all those who assisted in helping to make the affair a success. During the evening light refreshments were handed round. Mr T. 0. Jenkins officiated as Chairman, and the following programme was submitted : —

Piano solo, "La Marsellaise," Master Ivan Lambert; song, " When the Boys come Home," Mrs Aldridge ; reoitation, "The Nightwatchman's Story," Mr B, Leßoy ; violin solo, " Cradle Song," Mr H. Marson; song, "The Toilers," Mrs Turley ; vocal quartette, " The Boat Song," Mrs Aldridge, Miss Fowler, Messrs King and Falkner; piano solo, "Cathedral Chimes," Miss Fowler; song, " Thora," Mrs H. King ; reoitation, '' The Revenge," Mr F. Falkner ; short'address, Rev. L. Hodson ; vocal duet, "To the Woods," Mesdames Lambert and Bailey; •ong, "A Song of Sleep" (with violin obligato), Miss Fowler; recitation, "King of Sicily" (with music), Mr Leßoy ; song, Mr I. Hughes ; vocal duet, " Where my Cararan has rested," Mrs Aldridge and Miss Fowler ; violin solo, " The Swan," Mr H. Marson ; song, " The Boatswain's Story," Mr L. Falkner ; vocal quartette, "Goodnight Beloved," Mrs Aldridge, Miss Fowler, Messrs King and Falkner 5 " God Save the King."
