GOLF NOTES.
THE Helensville Golf Club held their opening day for the season 1916, at the links on Saturday afternoon, April 15.
In a short speech, the president (T. Elliott, Esq.) welcomed all members, old and new,'and wished all a pleasant afternoon's sport, and after driving a ball off the first tee, declared the links open for play.
Players then sorted themselves out into fours, and a most enjoyable time was spent. Quite a number of spectators were also present.
The club owes a great debt to Mr Ellio.tt, for it is by his generosity the golfers are able to enjoy the game at small cost. Mr Elliott gratuitously gave gtilfers the use of three fields, b^fljjies putting in no small amount/of labour himself.
Afternoon tea, kindly supplied by the ladies, brought a most enjoyable afternoon to a close.
Competitions for this season are now on, and members are requested to see the notice in the pavilion, with regard to conditions of play. A trophy is to be the prize for ladies and gents respectively. ' _ ■ . '<*
