HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD

THURSDAY, APEIL 13th.

PRESENT Comrs. E. T. Field (chairman), A. Becroft, T. Elliott, J. F. Lambert, J. Stewart, G. Sellars, and the clerk (Mr H. W. Stringer). MINUTES Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Outward correspondence was comfirmed. RE-DECKING AWAROA BRIDGE. On the motion of Com. Stewart seconded by Com. Sellars, it was decided to call alternative tenders for the redecking of the bridge over Awaroa Creek, one for vehicular traffic and one for providing a footway as well as vehicular traffic. STACK NUISANCE. The Clerk was instructed to give notice to the owners of the timber stacked in Awaroa Street to have same removed, or proceedings will be taken. DOG TAx SETTLED. Com. Stewart, proposed (in pursuance of notice of motion)— That the Dog Tax for 1916 be 7/6' for all dogs. As an amendment, the Chairman proposed and Com. Elliott seconded—That the fee for sheep and cattle dogs be 2/6, and all other dogs 5/-, with the exception of bull dogs and grey hounds and that the fee for these be 10/. Only the proposer and seconder voting for this, the Chairman put Com. Stewart's motion which was carried, Corns. Stewart, Lambert, Becroft, and Sellars voting for, and Corns. Field and Elliott against.

PROVIDING FOR THE LOAN

The Chairman proposed (in pursuance of notice of motion) and Com. Sellars seconded—(l) That a sinking fund for the repayment of £3,300 loan for drainage and water be established : That the sum of £100 be paid in forthwith as a nucleus for that fund, and that for the future the sum of £100 per annum be paid on the first day of April in each year into the sinking fund for 9 years, to be increased during the next ensuing 8 years to £160, or to such amount as shall then be found necessary in order to accumulate the sum of £3,300 by the Ist day of October, 1933. — Carried.

(2) The Chairman proposed and Com. Stewart seconded —That the Public Trustee be appointed by the Helensville Town Board as Commissioner of the Sinking Fund established in connection with the Helensville Town Water and Drainage Loan.

TOWN RETURNING OFFICER,

Com. Elliott proposed (in pursuance of notice of motion) and Com. Becroft seconded—That the present arrangement re Returning Officer for the Helensville Town Board be rescinded, and that the Clerk be appointed as Returning Officer.-^-Motion lost, only the proposer and seconder voting in favour.

BILLIARD SALOON HOURS. ■'

Com. Lambert proposed (in pursuance of notice of motion) and Com. Sellars seconded —That Mr F. Tucker's application for the-extension of closing time for his billiard saloon from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., be granted.'—Corns. Lambert, Sellars, and Becroft voted in favour, and Corns. Field, Elliott and Stewart against; the Chairman giving his casting vote against, the motion was lost.

EXTENSION TIME FOR GAS.

I An application was received from representatives of the Gas Company for an extension of time for starting the gasworks in Helensville, on account of the increased oost of material and the extreme difficulty of getting the - material from England.—lt was unanimously decided to accede to the request. WHARFINGER FISHERMEN'S WHARF. On the motion of Com. Sellars, seconded by Com. Lambert, Mr W. W. L. Bradly was appointed wharfinger for the wharf at Helensville South. SCARCITY OF TENDERS. One tender was received for the grading and metalling of Nelson Street, but as the Board ! considered the price too high, it was decided not to accept same. ANZAC DAY. ■ A letterjvas received from the Prime Minister, asking that "Anzac Day" (Tuesday, April 25) be observed as a half-holiday from 1 p.m.—On the motion of Com. Lambert, seconded by Com. Sellars, it was unanimously decided to ask the public to close their places of business from 1 p.m. on that day. FINANCE' Dr. balance at Bank, £398/14/8. Accounts passed for payment, iSJ/17/-.
