Elocutionary Recitals
On Friday, April 7th, the Rev. J. B. Sue kling gave a recital in the Public Hall at Kaukapakapa. There was a large attendance, and the interest of all was well maintained and easily seen throughout the programme. Severa* local artists also assisted, and they -were all well received, every item being encored. The programme was as as follows :—
Pianoforte duet, Misses Sinclair and Henley; song, "The Swallows," Mrs Tanner; song, " The Holy City," Mr Fewell; recitals, " The Revenge," "Only a Tommy," and "An Essex Ballad" ("New Fangled Ways"); song, "The Last Milestone," Mrs Otto ; recitals, "Dora," and " The House that Jack Built" ; song, " Mother Mcßee," Miss Waddell; recitals, " The Veteran," and " The Centenarian" ; song, " The Arrow and the Song," Miss Fewell; recitals, " The Death of Absalom," and an Essex Ballad (" Maternal Pride ") ; song, " The Fairy Pipers," Miss Thane; recitals, " The Bride's First Visit to the Butcher," and " Wot vur do cc luv oi" ; song, "The Land of Nod," Mrs Goodwin; recitals, " The Soul of the Violin," and " Crossing the Bar." " God Save the King."
The Rev. Suckling also gave a recital at Wainui on Thursday evening to a good audience. Mrs H Bellini assisted, Proceeds for local Church work. Church News On Sunday the Rev. Suckling preached at Kaukapakapa Methodist Church both morning and evening, and in the afternoon at Wainui. There were good congregations. The Rev. Suckling has been appointed to the Pukekohe Circuit, and will take up his duties there from Sunday next. Mrs Suckling has also been spending a few days at the Kaukapakapa Methodist Parsonage. Rev. W. A. Porter, of Ngaruawahia Methodist Church, has been appointed to Port Albert Circuit. He lectured at Silverdale and Whangaparoa last week on British East. Africa; he was a missionary there for a time. He also preached at Silverdale and Whangaparoa on Sunday. Mr Porter will take up his duties at Port Albert next Sunday.
Rev. H. Ford, of the Methodist Church, Gisborne, has been appointed to the Northern Wairoa Circuit as Home Missionery. He has been spending a few days at Helensville, and preached there on Sunday morning, and at Woodhill in the evening.
Harvest Thanksgiving Services were held recently in the Presbyterian Church at Kaukapakapa. The Church was nicely decorated, and the congregations were large. In the afternoon the Rev. Hodson preached, and in the evening the Rev. H. Braddock.
Methodist Circuit Quarterly Meeting
The Circuit Quarterly meeting of the Helensville Home Mission Station was held on "Tuesday evening, April 4, at Helensville. Rev. E. P. Blamires was in the chair, and there was a fair attendance of office-bearers. The income for the quarter was £58, and expenditure £46, leaving a credit balance of £14 on the quarter. But a debit balance of £15 from Deoember quarter now leaves a debit balance of £1. The membership roll was reported at 62, Ladies' Patriotic Guild The ladies of Kaukapakapa are carrying on their work of love for the soldiers regularly. They meet at a certain, house by invitation every Thursday afternoon, and every house is open, but all are not equally convenient, so the meetings are held wherever it is possible to do so. Next Thursday an open-air meeting will be held at the Tennis Court, and the ladies will be the guests of the Tennis Club. Tennis Trophy A prophy presented by Mr F. Dye is to be played for next Thursday at Kaukapakapa. It is to. be hoped that all will show their appreciation qf the donor's kindness, and that all who can will play for the trophy.
