JOHN BULL NEWSPAPER

GETS EVEN WITH RAMSAY

On August 19th., the Leicester Labour M. P. of pro-German notoriety,' made an attack in his paper, " The Labour Leader," on various newspaper editors and their nationality. Among other personal references, it prints —" John Bull," editor, Mr Horatio Bottomly, birthplace and parentage unknown. Editor Bottomly resented the slur and pointed out .that all information as to his birthplace and parentage is obtainable at Somerset House, London, on payment of a small fee. On September 4th., Editor Bottomfy got a bit of his own back by printing in "John, Bull" of that date a fac-simile of the official copy of the birth certificate of Leicester's Labour M.P., who attacked him, obtained from the district in which that individual was born. It shows that the British Parliamentarian known as James Ramsay McDonald, and whose utterances are cabled out to New Zealand, is registered as James McDonald Ramsay—the illegitimate son of Annie Ramsay, domestic servant, of Lossiemouth, in the- parish of Draine, Elginshire, Scotland. The certificate is No. 131, date of birth 12th October, 1866, registered November 2nd., and register signed by the mother of the illegitimate "James McDonald Ramsay," now posing as James Ramsay McDonald. — " John Bull," London, September 4.
