A farewell was tendered to Private H. T. Elvin in the Hall on Wednesday evening. The weather unfortunately was wet, but those who braved the elements spent a very pleasant time, singing, dancing, etc, and had the weather been fine a large number would have beenpiesent. Mr W. Gardner gave a short address, and, on handing Pvt. Elvin a handsome illuminated wristlet-watch, said he had very much pleasure in making the presentation on behalf of the young man's many friends, who all combined in good wishes foi his future welfare, and would not forget him wherever he might be. Pvt. Elvin suitably responded, and said that should it be his fortune to reach the trenches, or no matter where he might be, he would look at the watch with pride and remember the many good friends he had left behind A. sum of money left over after" purchasing the watch, was also handed to Pvt. Elvin, who, in handing it back to Mr Gardner, said (amid hearty applause) he had pleasure in donating it to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.
