OPENING OF THE AGRICULTURAL HALL
HELENSVILLE A. AND P
ASSOCIATION
IN the absence of the Premier, Ml- J. Gordon Coates, M. P., opened the new Agricultural Hall at 11 a.m. on Show day, and, during his address, remarked that farmers should complete their income tax returns as soon as possible in order to conform with the request of the Government, and incidentally remarked that some people advocated an export duty on all produce exported from the Dominion in order to raise sufficient revenue to pay the war tax. This was a good idea; revenue was important and had to be raised so as to carry on the war. He asked farmers and all concerned to do their utmost to encourage the voluntary system, and send their boys to the front. He congratulated the Show Committee on the excellent new hall and grounds. The district had a great future before it, with the railway steadily advancing northwards. He wished everyone in the district success. (Cheers). The President, Mr Aitkenhead, also spoke,' and gave a few details on the progress of 'the Annual Show since starting some seventeen years ago.
