TO COMBAT SLUGS

A, correspondent of the Bunedin Star writes :-x. " Lime water is certain death, to slugs. It is easily applied, and perfectly harmless to plants. Use about 31b weight of good unslaked lime to one kerosene tin of water. The mixture is ready for use immediately, or a month afterwards. Stir well and strain through' a piece of scrim, and apply to lawns, beds and borders with a water-can and hose. If applied two or three times, always at night, every slug, big qr small, on the land treated will be exterminated. A better job wil} be made if boiling water is used for a start in mixing the lime. Do not use a fine hose on the watering-can, or it will become choked with lime.".
