. T-gE fishermen of Helensville retwo of their '' boys " with of sovereigns and a cfyalaffogiie .supper at Bishop's Terminus,"—Hotel on Monday night. Mr Robt. Vercoe occupied the chair, and in making the presentation ,-to Messrs Reuben* Turner and George Morris, congratulated them on their patriotism in offering their services to the Empire' and sincerely hoped they would give a good account of themselves, and return safely.! Both lads suitably responded, and the evening was spun out iin loyal and patriotic toasts,"'and song and story. The 'volunteers' left for Trentharh by Tuesday -*■ afternoon's train.
On Thursday evening last a social was tendered in. the Star ! Theatre to Mri&.. Becroft's two ■ sons, Louis.and Alfred, who were. ;i home on their final leave, before^ leaving for the front with' the;' Ninth Reinforcement. ','. A most v enjoyable evening was spen\ with dancing, cards and games. A dainty supper was provided,' after which Mr E.
