PATRIOTIC MOVEMENTS

. A meeting of settlers and others was held some weeks ago to discuss ways and means of raising funds in support pf the Queen of the North, and thereby assisting our sick and wounded soldiers. It was decided to have a concert, dance, and jumble sale combined, and a large committee of ladies and gentlemen, of whom Mr T. Hooper was appointed, chairman, was formed to do all. they could to raise money by sale of votingpapers,art union tickets,etc ; The idea was enthusiastically taken up by residents of Glorit and Tahekeroa. the three districts combining and working in perfect harmony for the common cause. "

During the evening Private C. Berger now on leave from Trentham, took round his hat, into which coins were fairly showered. Mr H. Hooper gave a cow (valued at £8) to be raffled, the winning number being drawn by Mr E. Smith. Mrs J; Gardner gave a beautifully dressed doll for a name^guessing competition, but as no one guessed the name (Theltna), it was afterwards sold byauction.
