CORRESPONDENCE
VISIT OF QUEEN OF THE NORTH
TO THE EDITOR
Sir,—Through the columns of yourpaper I wish to exprees my great-regret at my absence from your successful function of Friday last. Shortly after I accepted nomination as Queen of the North, I was informed of Helensville's j intention to hold a Floral Fete, but the date I was asked to reserve was the end of the last week of the competition. I arranged my plans accordingly, and have spent the last three weeks addressing meetings and assisting the organisation of the Far Forth; where the districts are so far apart as to render it necessary to visit every small centre in order to get the people in touch with the details of our Carnival scheme for raising money for our sick and wounded soldiers.
My plan was to work my way southward, reaching Helensville next week and proceeding thence to Auckland for the Coronation ceremony. I was deeply disappointed on my arrival home last week, to find that your Fete was arranged for the 19 th inst, and I was then too late for any steamer which could" land me in Helensville in time to participate in it.
I hope to visit Helensville on Saturday next, 27th. inst., when I shall have the pleasure of meeting many of my co-workers in this splendid effort for the comfort and security of our sick and wounded boys, who are fast returning to our shores. From all I have learn* during my travels, I feel assured that the North of Auckland is going to wipe out forever the misnomer of the " Poor North," and of tbe grand total that will stand to our credit on the 27th, I feel convinced that Helensville and the surrounding districts will have contributed a generous share. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc.,
Margaret Harding, Mangawhare, November 21, 1915.
