Concert & Social

A concert and social to raise funds for the wounded soldiers in connection with the Queen of the North carnival, was held in the local hall on Thursday evening, 18th inst. The night was fine, enabling a large number of people to attend. Mr F. Dye, County Chairman, presided. The children's part was well carried out, which deserves special mention. The school teachers also deserve a mede of praise for the pains they took with the children. The items were nearly all encored, but standing out for special mention was Mrs Bellini's contributions, her songs being highly appreciated, and Mr Carter's violin solos were also honoured with encores. The farce, which occupied the second part of the programme was capitally enacted, Mr R. F. Koller,' and Mrs G. Dye taking the leading parts, while the other characters were represented by Mrs Bellini, Misses Hardy and Bellingham, and Mr H. Dye, A real good piece in capable hands, The following was the first part of the concert;

God Save the King! Chorus, " Fight for the Flag," school children ; pianoforte duet, Misses Sinclair and Healey , solo, "Dam om," Mrs Bellini; Japanese Fan Song by school children; solo, " My dear soul," Miss Waddell; violin solo, Mr Carter ; solo, ''For the Wounded," Mrs Goodwin • yocal duet, *' Maying,"- Misses Wardell and Hardy 5 solo, " Knitting," Mrs Bellini ; violin solo, '' Orpheus with his Lute," Mr Carter ; solo, " I love a lassie," Mr Milligan ; chorus, "' Farmer Brown's Farm," school hoys. The takings amounted to £40 odd.
