THE VALUE OF THERMAL SPRINGS.

THE Minister for Internal Affairs' (Hon. Mr Russell) said at the Helensville Hot Springs last Saturday, that within three days. of war being declared all the spas in England, France and Germany had. been commandeered by the respective Governments because of their value in the treatment of the wounded. In New Zealand the Government was doing the same, and two great convalescent stations were being established at Rotorua and Hanmer. In case the pressure at these stations became too great he would certainly consider a proposal to use the Helensville springs as a convalescent station. The Minister proceeded to say that he was gradually formulating a scheme to have the thermal springs of the country connected with the

great^hospitals, so that civil as we# as military patients could £j|j^|gjsive treatment during convalat these springs.
