French and Servians — Engaged Against Bulgarians — Defence of Railway Line — Bulgarian Town Attacked -*- Attitude of Greek King—Agreement with Germany

French troops which were landed at Salonika are engaged against 40,000 Bulgarians in defence of the Salonika-Nish railway. The scene of the action is Valanaovi, a town near the line not far from the point at which it enters Servian territory, and about five miles from the Bulgarian frontier. At Doiran, in the extreme south-east of Servia, and near the Greek and Bulgarian borders, the Servians are stated to be engaged against the Bulgarians.

Writing from Rome, Dr. Dillon states that there is a formal arrangement between the Kaiser and King Constantino, and it can be modified in favour of the allies only by the irresistible pressure of circumstances which have yet to be created.

In an -interview given to an Italian newspaper, M. Venizelos, ex-Pr<3mier of Greece, states that the allied landing at Salonika followed a formal request by Greece. There is growing irritation in Britain at the attitude of Greece, and a demand that she should state her intentions more explicitly.

Baron Kato, ex-Foreign Minister of Japan, declares that it is impracticable to send Japanese troops to Europe at present.
