OFFICIAL OPENING
OF NEW FERRE-CONCRETE BRIDGE AND HOT SPRINGS BATHS
A MEETING of the general committee in connection with the above was held in Becroft's Hall on Thursday evening last, when there was an attendance of about thirty.
The Secretary reported that he had written to the Prime Minister asking him if he would visit Helensville on the 23rd inst., or other date about that time, to open the bi'igde, baths, etc:, and had received a reply stating that the Prime Minister would not be able to leave Wellington owing to pressure of business.
The Secretary was instructed to wire to Mr J. Gordon Coates asking him if he could get the Hon. G. W. Russell, or some other Minister, to come up for the purpose.
The following sub-committees were appointed to collect cash or kind for providing refreshments for the visitors :—
Parkhurst, Parakai and TePua —Mesdames J. Newman and Me Garvey, and Misses W. McLeod, Aitkenhead, Nicholls and Monk. Awaroa Road, Bridge, Railway and Stewart Streets —Mesdames Lambert junr., Sewell. Garfield Road — Mesdames Field and Sandin. Commercial Road— Mesdames Oxley and Vercoe and Misses Becroft (2). Avenues — Mesdames Screaton and Stringer.
The Committee is to report the result of their collections to a meeting to be held on Thursday. 7th in st.
The Reception Committee to comprise the members of the Waitemata County Council, and Helensville Domain Board.
Sports and Greens Committee : Messrs A. J. Garry, G. Murphy, Jas. Hand, A. J. Hill, W. Harris, J. Lambert junr., with Mr J. A. Jackson (representing Waifemata County Council).
Luncheon Committee: Messrs Aitkenhead, J. A. Wilson, E. H. Cucksey, and J. Lambert senr.
The meeting then adjourned to Thursday, 7th inst.
Mr Stringer has received the following telegram from the Hon. G. W. Russell :—
"In reply to your telegram to Mr Gordon Coates, M.P., iiiviting me to open the bridge and baths at Helensville on October 23rd. If the condition of public business enables me to do so, I will be very glad to attend on the occasion. Will let you know as early as possible if I find it impossible to attend.—G. W. Russell, Minister for Internal Affairs."
