EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE
ON Monday evening last the usual monthly euchre party and dance, promoted by the Church of England Ladies' Guild, was held in the Star Theatre, and the attendance was a record one. About forty couples sat down to the card tables, and some twelve games were played. The ladies' prize, a handsome pen-painted sachet, presented by Mrs Sellars, was won by Mrs McGarvey (10 games), who had to " cut " with Mrs Roberts, this lady also having 10 games to her credit. Mr Rowles proved the winner of the gentlemen's prize, which was a silver shavingmug. Five gentlemen qualified for the coveted "booby " prize, and had to " cut " for the honour, the winner being Mr M. Carmody. Mrs Morris won the ladies consolation prize. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies of the Guild, and was greatly appreciated. Dancing was then indulged in, and altogether a most enjoyable evening was spent.
The gentlemen's. prize~ was donated by Mrs Ellett ; while Mrs Walters provided the consolation prizes. /
