A moonlight excursion is announced to Shelly Beach, the s.s Wairua leaving Helensville on Saturday evening at 8 p.m. Tickets 1/6 each. The object is to raise funds for opening of new bridge and baths. . Messrs Alfred Buekland and Sons announce the sale by auction on Bth October next, of Mr A. J. Bradly's farm three miles out from Helensville; the property is a most desirable one, and comprises 515 acres.
Dr Kidd, who has for some time past acted as locum tenens for some of the ■most eminent medical men of Auckland and is highly spoken of, is now acting in Helensville for Dr Meinhold during the latter's absence in Auckland, and may be consulted at Mr Sandin's shop or at Dr Meinhold's private residence, during the usual hours.
It is regrettable to learn that some of the boys (strangers to the town) while on leave from the camp, have not been behaving themselves in the streets of Helensville, with that gentlemanly bearing so necessary and becoming to our defenders, whom their mothers and sisters are so proud of. A little lapse on the part of one or two, is apt to bring disrepute to the many who are held up as paterns of goodness and discipline.
The Dargaville Bell sounds a warning note on its neighbour, the Times, as follows:—"In a recent copy of the North Auckland Times, we note that the proprietor, Mr Hillier, still persists in printing on the title page the following statement: ' Circulation 1200 daily.' If this is done to mislead outside advertisers who are not familiar with local conditions, it is most unworthy of our contemporary. Mr Hillier knows that to state that the Times has a circula tion of 1200 daily is a gross exaggeration of fact, and we are credibly informed that' for bona fide circulation he might halve the figures and still leave a margin for 4 bluff.* " Whatever may be the circulation of some papers, not half of them are read, for the yery simple reason there is no ink on the rollers.—ECHO
