A RED CROSS TEA

A MOST enjoyable afternoon was spent at the- "Pines" (the residence of Mrs McGarvey), on Thursday, 26th ult., and took the form of a " Red Cross Tea,1' in aid of our wounded soldiers. The floral decorations were beautifully carried out, the principal flowers being anemones. A guessing competition, entitled "The Romance of Britannia and a Soldier of the King," proved very interesting, and the lucky winners were Mrs Coutts and Mrs C. Sandin. Songs were rendered by Mrs Sellars and the Misses Wilson, Spencer, Elson, and McLeod, Mrs Rowles presiding at the piano. Most delicious refreshments were handed round. Many pretty and stylish dresses were worn by the ladies present, and Mrs McGarvey received her guests in a becoming black merveleau trimmed with handsome beaded ornaments. Those present were: Mrs and Miss Wilson, Mrs White, Mrs McLeod, Mrs Hand, Mrs Field, Mrs Stringer, Mrs and M.iss Stewart, Mrs Oxley, Mrs Merton, Mrs Wharton, Mrs and Miss Monk, Mrs Walters, Miss Hewitt, Miss Simcock, Mrs Rawson, Mrs S. L. Wilson, Mrs Eric McLeod, Mrs Rowles, Mrs Dr.' Meinhold, Mrs and Miss Spencer, Mrs and Miss Elson, Mrs Heley, Mrs Sellars, Mrs Davage, Mrs J. Lambert, Mrs Coutts, Miss Nita McLeod, Mrs C. Sandin, and Mrs W. JMcLebd. A good substantial sum will be added to the fund.
