British Bombardment — Ships on Belgian Coast—Poison Gas factory Shelled — Turkish Supply Ship Sunk—German Submarine Ashore

British warships bombarded Zeebrugge and other German positions on the coast of Flanders Their fire was concentrated against the inner harbour of Zeebrugee, where German submarine parts are being assembled and a poisonous gas factory in the neighbourhood. Extensive damage was done. Two French torpedo-boats sank a German destroyer off Ostend.

An American correspondent at Mudros, in the island of Lemmos, states that as a result of the surprise landing of large British forces at Suvla Bay, the retreat of 100,000 Turks in the south of the peninsula has been cut off. He predicts their early surrender. It is rumoured that the Turks are in need of munitions.

A British submarine in the Sea of Marmora sank a Turkish coal ship off Constantinople. A German liner carrying provisions and munitions was also sunk.

The German battle - cruiser Moltke, is now definitely stated to have been sunk by a British submarine. The Russian naval victory in the Gulf of Riga is confirmed. Two German cruisers and eight torpedo boats were either sunk or put out of action.
