Corporal W. A. Drinnan, of Kaukapakapa, writing to his parents from a hospital in Egypt, reports that he has been laid-up since Ist July. He was wounded at the Dardanelles, and is now progressing favourably.

Going to the front.—Last week in our " Defence Notes," it was stated that Messrs G. McEwin and G. Hall had volunteered and been accepted for service. It should have read •' V " Hall —We hope they will all come back again safe and sonnd.
A young man was brought before the Helensville Bench on the 16th inst., charged with a serious offence against a young girl. The case was dismissed for want of evidence. We learn that the couple have since got married.—God Save the King.
. Angus Plaice, a young man about 24 years of age, of weak intellect, who was found wandering about Helenoville, without any visible means of support, was arrested by Constable Driscoll and brought before the Bench, and remanded to Anckland, on 18th inst.
A well-deserved promotion has just been granted to Mr S. W. White to the Te Awamutu Post and Telegraph Office. Mr White, who has been for some years in the Helensville office, will be much missed, he having conducted bussiness with courtesy and promptitude during his term here. But our loss will be again to others, and the ECHO wishes S. W. W. every prosperity.
Mr J. Gordon Coates, M.P., passed through HeJensville on Saturday,en route for Wellington. During the few hours he spent here, he was interviewed by the Town Clerk (Mr H. W. Stringer) re the Hot Springs and an increase in the Government subsidy for a ladies' swimming bath. Mr Coates promised to attend to the natter.
Wednesday next, 25th inst., will be a red letter day in. the annals of the Helensville Presbyterian Churcii, as on that date they are to have a Presbyterial visitation. The Revs. G. Roby (Northcote) and Walter McLean (Somerville Memorial Church, Remuera) are the deputation, meeting the Manager's Committee at 7.30, and the congregation a,n.d friends at 8 p.m., when a. reogrd attendance tQ hoped for,
