Struggle for Warsaw — Russians Hold Vital Points — Successful Italian Advance

A fierce struggle continues in the east from the Niemen to the Bug. In the southern battle the Russians are stoutly resisting the Austro - German,, effort to reach the Lublin railway. In the Sokal region, in the extreme north of Galicia, the Russians cleared the enemy from the right bank of the Bug, taking 1500 prisoners. The Austro-Germans are apparently closing on the fortress of Ivangorod, on the Vistula, 64 miles south of Warsaw.

Reports from Rome state that the Italian turning movement in the battle for Gorz is sweeping all before it. The Italians are attacking the fortress from the north and south, their objective being heights dominating the town.

A report from General Sir lan Hamilton states that a Turkish raiding party was repulsed on the Australasian front on Sunday night. In the south of the peninsula the British captured a small redoubt.

Violent fighting continues in the Vosges, to the advantage of the French. On one occasion nine German counter - attacks we're repulsed.

French airmen have bombarded another station in the Argonne.
