German Onset in East — Heroic Rnssian Resistance — Allied Success on Gallipoli
The latest reports from the eastern theatre indicate that the Austro-Germans have embarked upon an offensive movement from the Baltic to the south of Poland. The _ Russians are offering a heroic resistance to the enemy's onset between the Vistula and the Bug, in the south of Poland.
The French have gained some success on the Meuse front. A trench was captured in the ravine of Souvaux, and a German attack with liquid fire was repulsed. Severe losses were inflicted on the enemy.
Sir John French reports that despite considerable activity on both sides, the situation on the British front is unchanged since his last report on July 9.
The Italians advancing on the Isonzo front in the region of Gorz have reached a point commanding a railway junction whereby food reaches the town. It is reported from Rome that Italy is preparing for a winter campaign in the Alps.
The London Daily Mail reports that the allies are vehemently attacking with success along the whole front on the Gallipoli Peninsula, the warships cooperating.
