Progress on Gallipoli — Turkish Positions Taken — Allied Airmen Active — Bombs on German Trenches
General Sir lan Hamilton reports the capture of two stronglyfortified lines of Turkish trenches on Gallipoli on Monday. The allies advanced on both their wings, the French gaining from 200 yds to 400 yds on the right, and the British advancing 400 yds on the left.
A report from Athens states that British battleship bombarded the Turkish positions on Gaba Tepe on Saturday, and an allied cruiser shelled the Turkish right wing a few miles further north on Sunday.
The allies have captured a German trench north of Arras, and have made progress in the western region of the Argonne, where the fighting is now confined.
Advices from Czernowitz, the capital of Bukovina, state that Russians are making a new attack on the Bessarabia frontier.
Allied airmen have shown great activity in' Flanders. Bombs have [been dropped on German trenches and other positions. An ammunition depot has been destroyed.
