"TO-MORROW WILL BE FRIDAY."
THE Echo is not arguing against the lines sung by the lovers of the good old song, but we wish to point out that by to-morrow, Friday, hundreds of our Subscribers will have received their newspaper account right up to the end of the year, which includes the present six months in advance, according to our terms of subscription. As very many subscribers have not planked down one solitary sixpence or penny-piece since the present proprietors commenced business on January Ist, 1914, and they are now on the eve of owing us two years' subscription; we wish to bring home to them the hardship thrust upon the ECHO enterprise in endeavouring to run a newspaper without the sinews of war. We are here fighting their battles for the good of one and all, and the progress of the district, which means the enhancement of property, the success of business (many and varied), and the social enjoyment of everyone in our sphere of labour, and therefore should be better encouraged. Let one and all then,. play the game, by paying-up promptly, and giving the editor better encouragement. Without saying too much about our part of the bargain, it "must be remembered that the enormous amount of book-keeping entailed, and expense of stationery and postal stamps, is no sinecure, and out of which we make a loss.
