DEFENCE NOTES

HELENSVILLE PLATOON

K.D.R.C

The Platoon will parade at the Defence Office at 8 p.m. on Thursday (this evening). * # ■%.

There will also be a parade on Saturday, the 12th inst. The Platoon will fall in at the Defence Office at 2 p.m. All members are requested to attend this parade in view of the inspection, at an early date, by the Area Offier.

The members of the various Corps in the district attended a memorial service at the Roman Catholic . Church to the late Trooper J. Marshall, who died from wounds received at the Dardanelles. The service, which was opened by the Dead March in Saul, was most impressive, and the Rev. Father Kelly gave a very edifying address. The parade was commanded by Captain Turley, Group Officer, assisted by Lieut. White, 15th N. A. Regiment. After the service the troop proceeded to the Show Ground, where they were put through several manoeuvres by Lieut. White.

Private advice has been re" ceived Lieut. Fletcher is returning to New Zealand per s.s. Wallochra.

Dr. H. Phippin, L.R.C.P..M.R.C.S, has accepted the position of Honorary Surgeon to the Helensville Platoon of the Kaipara District Rifle Club.

Dr Phippen announces that he will give free advice to all dependants of those Helensville men who have gone to the war.
