The allied warships are now bombarding the Turkish forts in the Narrows at close range.

In the western extremity of the Gallipoli Peninsula the Turks have been driven into the woods behind Krithia, where they have been severely bombarded.

The Turks are said to be poisoning the water supply on the Peninsula. The arrival of 15,000 Turkish wounded at Constantinople has caused a panic in the city.

■ The object of the British and French offensive south-west of Lille is stated to be La Bassee. The German lines in this region protect a valuable railway system When this is pierced by the allies, the German communications will be imperilled.
