Colonials in Battle — " Extraordinarily Good " — Scenes at the Landing — Belgium " Annexed by the Huns
In continuation of his story, Mr Ashmead Bartlett vividly describes the " magnificent" manner in which New Zealanders and Australians "hung on to their positions day and night" while covering the landing at Oaba Tepe of re-inforceraents, artillery arid supplies. He says : " These Australasians were determined to die to a man rather than surrender ground so dearly won. Every man knew that the only hope of safety lay in victory, as it was impossible to re-embark the army once the ring of hills commanding the beach was lost. The Turkish gunners tried to put » "curtain of shrapnell " between the transports and the shore, but without any effect upon landing operations.
