PARKHURST SCHOOL

ANNUAL MEETING OF

HOUSEHOLDERS

The annual meeting was held on April 28, when there was a record attendance of six, including four of the old Committee. At the election the old Committee was returned. Mr J. Archibald was appointed secretary, and Mr R. Nicholl chairman.

At the ordinary Committee meeting, held after the annual meeting, it was decided to continue with the improvements to the grounds, and at a later date to advertise in the local paper a day for a gathering of workers to remove logs and stumps and plough the ground. TEACHER'S REPORT Following is the teacher's annual report:—

Dear Sirs,—l have much pleasure in presenting to you the following annual report of the Parkhurst School: )$f The present roll number is 41, the - highest attained for many years. The average attendance for last quarter Avas 38-3, as compared with 235 and 148 of the two previous years. If the school continues to progress in this manner there is no doubt that an assistant teacher will be appointed at the end of ' the year. Needless to say, BU ch an appointmeut would be highly beneficial • to the children, and would greatly relieve the strain of work.

In his annual report, Mr Lambourne, M.A,, Inspeotor of Schools, commented very favourably on the work of the school giving a special word of praise to the Maori pupils. Only one candidate was presented for examination in Std. Vl bne obtained proficiency and a free place

Several very beneficial improvements have been made during the year. A shelter-shed has been built, and the paths covered with scoria. When the improvement scheme, which the Committee has now in hand, is completed, our grounds ought to compare very, favourably with those of much larger and richer schools.

In conclusion I would like to thank the Committee, especially the Chairman for the cordial support which they have given to the school and myself during the past year. At present the position is a particularly difficult one taftffil, but I am pleased to say that it Mmsiderably improved by the kind he®Qness and courtesy of the School Committee.—l am, etc. Elsie M. McLoughlin, Teacher Parkhurst School.
