KAUKAPAKAPA

[OWN CORRESPONDENT]

Kaukapakapa was in high jinks for the good rain which fell recently, when a fair Bhare 'of these " showers of blessing" fell upon us, and we were thankful.

The dry weather has told hard on our land and stock, and much loss has been sustained through it. But what a fine panacea dry weather is, when lengthened out a little, and the rain is relished, as very often the earlier rain is not. And it would do all your readers good Mr Editor, to get a hand-shake and a smile from, the Kaukapakapa farmers now.

Creeks that have been dry on and off for months are now full, pressed down and running over. Livestock aie tossing themselves in the air and frisking in the fields with delight. The fields which were all withered and bare arel now freshening up. It is just delightfu. to see the green grass coming on again Anyone with half ah eye can see now the kind of farming which pays best. Paddocks that have been well treated, well worked, sown, and manured, areresponding quickly to this warm rain, while those that . are equ ally treated from the sky, but worse treated on the earth are not responding so well.

A new " Esty " organ was recently installed in the Methodist Church here. It was purchased by Mr F. Dye, the Church organist here for many years, from the British and Foreign Piano Agency in Auckland. It cost £35, has twelve stops, and a very sweet tone The worshippers will greatly appreciate it, but the old one will still be remembered for for what it has done.

The tennis match, arranged for last Saturday, was postponed on account of the rain. The local players are now looking forward to next Saturday to combine w'.th Silverdale players, and meet Helensville in full strength, on the Kauka<pakapa courts. None were perhaps more disappointed last Saturday than those ladies who had provided refreshments for the expected function, but, doubtless, their menfolk enjoyed an unexpected treat. We fael sure that next Saturday the visitors will be treated right royally.
