KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, THERS'Y, MARCH 25, 1915 THE GREAT GUN HOW HELENSVILLE RIFLE CLUB IS TREATED

There is a great deal of talk amongst the public of Helensville regarding the attitude of the " big gun" amongst the Defence authorities, concerning the uniforming of the members of the local Platoon. In fact, red-tapism seems to abound. When the Platoon was first started a few months ago it was quite understood amongst the members, who were very enthusiastic at the time, that the Defence Department would supply the necessary equipment, but the members and the public generally, realising the difficulties which the Defence authorities have to face in equipping the numerous re-inforcements, decided upon obtaining the necessary uniforms for the Helensville Platoon at their own expense, and this decision was forwarded to the headquarters of the Group. But so far, certain difficulties have been placed in the way by the authorities, excuses being tha the sample of proposed cloth for uniforms sent from here is " too good," and that cotton drill is 'good enough.' We have seen the sample of cloth proposed, and it is a really good heavy dark khaki, very suitable for winter wear, and, further, so we are informed, the total cost would only be 35s per outfit. It seems a great pity that the work done here by the members of the Platoon for the last seven or eight months should be hindered by a lot of useless red-tapism, more particularly when the proposed uniform is strictly in acpordance with the regulations as laid down for Rifle Clubs. Great public financial help and encouragement has already been given the Platoon for the purpose of acquiring these uniforms and we trust no further obstacles will be placed m the way by headrquarters.
