DISGUSTED AGAIN
'' IT'S a peculiar world we live in, my masters," but one with an eye to supporting New Zealand industries, especially in these stirring war times, would have expected the Defence Department of the Dominion, in advertising tenders last week for large supplies of provisions, etc., for our men in Samoa, would have included a few thousand tins of mullet in the fish list, which enumerated 16 dozen lib tins salmon, 12 dozen lib tins fresh herrings ; and 18 dozen lib tins herrings in tomato sauce. But there is no accounting for things that are peculiar, though the idea of calling tenders for supplies of imported fish when we can produce tons of delicious tinned mullet, passes our understanding. The Defence Department ought to be ashamed of its methods in this respect.
