Poison laid for dogs on Toukauri Block. The altered statutory weekly halfholiday will commence next Saturday, 6th inst. A new workshop for Mr J. McKenzie, builder and carpenter, is being erected opposite the Echo office. Dr. Phippin, late of Warkworth, announces that he starts practice in Helensville South, as from Monday next. Mr Bernard McCarthy, of Parkhurst, is having a large homstead erected on his .farm—an additional credit to the district. How will Helensville commemorate its first Saturday half-holiday on the 6th inst. ? We cannot all bowl nor play tennis. What about weter excursions? Investigations made in Wellington indicate that the bakers are not altogether justified in charging 5d per 21b loaf. The New Zealand Government is offering a donation of £15,000 to the Belgian Commission, and thereafter a regular monthly donation. A dance in aid of the Helhnsville Volunteer Fire Brigade is to be held in the Star Theatre, next Tuesday evening. Admission only 1/-. Owing to the continuation of the war, we have quite run ont of supplement supplies, which cannot be forthcoming until some future date. Public notices appear in onr columns, re the changing of proprietorship of Champion Bakery, the incoming baker being Mr Ramsay, late of Paparoa. The public are informed' that the Bel-' gian list is still open for subscriptions in Helensville, with Mr H. W. Stringer Mr J. A. Ward has this week dontated £1 to the above fund. Messrs Davis Bros., farmers of Parkhurst, having dissolved partnership, a monster clearing-out sale is to be held this day (Thursday). Owing to an oversight, same was not advertised herein. Messrs Walker and Jones, who were "holding forth " at the Auction Mart, Helensville, a few weeks ago, announce another big sale of drapery, clothing, etc. commencing on Monday next. — A genuine sale, with genuine bargains. The Kaukapakapa school children had -.a most enjoyable treat on Friday afternoon last, when, in charge of their teachers, they were conveyed -to the Helerisvilie Hot Springs. Games, tennis, and swimming were indulged in, the party returning homeward by the 8 p.m train, thoroughly tired out but happy. An instruction parade of the Railway and Post and Telegraph Corps was held at Helensville on Monday evening last, when a good number were present. Col.-Sergt. Horton was in command, and gave the men instruction in knotting, splicing, etc., and most useful information relating their branch of the service. The Helensville A. & P. Associatioa, notify winners at the late Show, that they raaj receive their prize moneys on application to the Secretary; also that owing to the unfortuntte wet weather experienced, and thereby sustaining a big loss, but 75 per cent, of prize money will be paid out on Classes from 1 to 141. Messrs O'Leary Bros, and Downs, Seed Merchants, of Auckland, have something new advertised on page 4 of this issue. It will interest farmers to know that Al seeds are the best, and you are advised to write for a price list at once. English clovers, grasses, and ryegrass are specialised, also New Zealand [grown seeds —cocksfoot, ryegrass, brown top and danthonia.
