READERS will remember the particulars published in these columns a fortnight ago re the alleged selling of Mr James Stewart's present to the con~ tingenters of some 4000 tins of mullet, at the military canteen at Cairo, Egypt, at 5d per tin, and copy of letters passing between the complainant, Mr Stewart, and the Government, in order to sift the matter. The following letter in reply has since been received by Mr Stewart from the Premier: ICopy] Prime Minister's Office, 10th February, 1915. Dear Mr Stewart, —I beg to thank you for your letter of the Bth inst. (with enclosures), regarding the alleged sale of part of the canned fish donated by you to the Expeditionary Force. The statement that the fish was sold through the Canteen certainly requires looking into, and I shall take an early opportunity of bringing the matter before my colleague, the Hon. the Minister for Defence, for enquiry.—With kind regards, yours truly, W. F. MASSEY.
