THE FLOWER SHOW

TO THE EDITOR

Slß,—With pleasure I have read that there is to be a Flower Show held in Helensville ; now, that's about just the thing I have been looking forward to and 1 am sure it will help a good deal to beautify this town, and will also encourage the people hereabouts to grow something that is really worth growing. I sincerely hope that all in this district will get to work and grow something they like best and grow it to perfection, and therefore help to encourage their neighbours to do likewise, for the soil in almost any part of this town can be made to grow anything if it is worked up sufficiently, and that is really the main thing needed. Deep digging is better than a lot of manure, and deep digging and a liberal supply of manure all the better.

Now, some of the amateur gardeners who have not had the experience in regards getting ready for a Flower Show or do not know the right season to start or anything like that, I should be only too happy to give the benefit of my experience, and perhaps you would let me answer those through your valuable paper. I do no not expect anyone to buy my seedlings for giving any hint how to grow, etc., but, of course, I am sure that my seedlings would not have to take a back seat to any other, but, Mr Editor, you'll charge me for an ad. if I say "any more about my seedlings, so I should just like to say that anyone who intends to get a nice show of sweet pear should at once prepare soil for same as sweet peas do best sown early in March, and the soil should be trenched 2^-feet deep if they are to bloom to perfection.—l am, etc., H. HOPMEIER, Gardener. Helensville, 22nd Feb., 1915. [We shall always be pleased to give Mr Hopmeier, or any other person, a helping hand, through our colums. —Ed.]
