THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11. PRESENT Messrs E. T. Field (chairman), J. Lambert, J. Wilson, T. Elliott, A. Becroft, G. Sellars, Jas. Stewart, and the clerk (Mr H. W. Stringer). . MINUTES » Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Correspondence read and either dealt with or laid upon the table. SALE OF PLANT The Chairman's action in disposing of the Board's horse, dray and harness, was confirmed. THE FIRE BRIGADE Messrs J. Lambert, junr., A. Robinson and Pringle waited on the Board as a deputation from the Volunteer Fire Brigade, and brought several matters under the Board's notice for the better conduct, of the Brigade. Messrs Field, Becroft, Lambert and Stewart were appointed as a committee to go into same and report to next meeting. Mr Albert Robinson was appointed as captain of the Brigade in succession to his brother, who has left Helensville. OFFER OF A SITE Mr J. C. Rimmer wrote offering a site with 50ft frontage to Garfield Road for the erection of a Fire Brigade station, at 35s per foot, £25 cash, and the balance to remain, for 2 years at h\i per cent. The Board decided to offer Mr Rimmer 30s per foot, half cash down and the balance in 12 months (without interest). The Chairman was, authorised to complete on these terms. A COUNTER MOVE Mr Jas. Stewart stated he had a section adjoining Mr Rimmer's which be would let the Board have on these terms, provided Mr Rimmer would not accept the Board's offer. ■ The Board thanked Mr Stewart, and decided to accept the offer, providing they could not come to terms with Mr Rimmer. NO SUNDAY TRAINS The following letter re Sunday trainss, from the Railway Department, Wellington, was forwarded on through Mr J. Gordon Coates, M.P.: — Sir, —With reference to your representations in regard to the running of a Sunday train to Helensville, I haye the honour to inform you that I have again gone carefully into this matter, and I find that the cost of running the service would be more than three timey the probable revenue from the traffic likely to be derived. While being desirous of assisting where practicable and favourable circumstances prevail, I regret that the expenditure that would be involved in running extra trains for the traffic offering puts the proposition out of the question at the present time. GRAHAM'S CORNER It was decided that the surfaceman should tidy up the path in front of Mr Graham's, in Commercial Road. METAL CHIPS The Clerk was instructed to order 27 yards of metal chips for the pathway in Awaroa-street. EXTENDING SEWER It was also decided that the Fourth Avenue sewer extension be gone on with as soon as possible. BUILDING PERMITS Two building permits were granted, NOXIOUS WEEDS The Clerk was instructed to write to the Inspector of Noxious Weeds, asking him to take action against persons having noxious weeds growing on their premises. FINANCE Dr. balance at Bank, £176 17s. Accounts amounting to £196 2s 5d were passed for payment.
