MONDAY
A fleet of 34 aeroplanes and seaplanes has attacked German positions in Flanders, and has dropped bombs on their minesweeping vessels on the coast. "It is believed that this is the largest fleet of aircraft yet used in combination for attack. Twenty-two of the aeroplanes ;left the south-east coast of . and crossed the channel. The object of the attack was to prevent the development of submarine bases on the Belgian coast. - A force of 200 Turks attacked the Egyptian garrison at Toa, near the town of Suez. A small detachment surprised them in the rear, and annihilated them. Over sixty were killed, and 100 taken prisoners. The Germans have been repulsed with heavy loss near Lyck in East Prussia. The Russians have had further successes in the Carpathians. Advices from Rome state that the Italian forces are to be mobilised by March 1. The leader of the Liberals in ' Russia states that the allies have agreed that at the end of the war Russia, will hold Constantinople.
