The Germans have made' another attack on Ypres. The French were well prepared for the onslaught, and their machine guns cut down the first three lines of advancing Germans. The enemy left 1600 dead on the field. At La Bassee the Germans are also active. Attributing their failure in the last attack to their artillery, they have brought up heavy guns, and are shelling the British positions. The Shaw, Savill, and itt^ Company's \Tokamaru, w«ra cargo of produce from New Zealand, and some clothing for the Belgians, was torpedoed and; sunk off Havre on the French coast of the English Channel. Two other merchant ships were torpedqed near Havre, one of wh^ich sank.. Three merchant shfps have been torpedoed and sunk in the Irish Sea.
